Project Description

Country: USA

Location: Arlington

Total Budget: $1,440

Area of Focus: Community economic development

Activity Type: Community Development: General

Summary: Establish a pollinating garden at Veterans Park in Arlington, TX in conjunction with the xeriscape garden at the park

75% of the world's plant species are dependent on pollinators to survive. Without the help of pollinators, 30% of the food in any grocery store would disappear. This appeared in the October 2020 issue of the Rotarian. Restoring habitats for butterflies such as Monarchs, bees, moths, and other insects creates a foundation for biodiversity. The Rotary club of Arlington Great Southwest, the Parks Department of the City of Arlington, and the Tarrant County Master Gardens Society will develop and maintain a pollinating garden at Veteran's Park. The garden will not only serve a vital purpose of establishing an area for pollinators but also add to a visual beauty of the park, attracting visitors to the park. Visitors will learn about the importance of humans, insects, and plants to the environment.
