Project Description

Country: USA

Location: Fort Worth, Texas

Total Budget: $6,700

Area of Focus: Basic education and literacy

Activity Type: Education: General

Summary: Twenty Chromebooks will be provided to Richard J. Wilson Elementary, a Title One school in Fort Worth, Texas.

Our club has an ongoing partnership with Richard J. Wilson Elementary, a Title One, multilingual school that is part of FWISD. Even prior to the current pandemic, school administrators and teachers had identified a need to increase their use of technology in the classroom to enhance learning experiences and skill development in multiple realms. Despite the technology that was made available to students for at home learning during the pandemic, elementary schools are not provided the same level of technology for in-person classrooms. Students at Richard J. Wilson typically have limited hands-on learning opportunities using technology outside of school.

Studies show that students grow through the use of technology by being able to do research, investigate information that they may never experience firsthand, and increase literacy and math development. Our project would be to purchase a set of 20 Chromebooks, equipment that has already proven to be a useful tool in the school. Educators tell us increased access to Chromebooks in the classroom enables teachers to help more students increase knowledge, virtual experience, math and literacy skills. Equipment would be purchased through FWISD to maximize school discounts.

This year our club has increased our planned interaction with Richard J. Wilson to monthly assemblies (currently being conducted virtually) to distribute dictionaries, reward students for academic achievement, and award students for perfect attendance. At least two club members also volunteer at the school to help in other ways. Attached photos are from club projects with Richard J. Wilson and demonstrate our club's ongoing involvement.
