Will provide literacy programing support for students in the Nome Public Schools using a multi-faceted approached during the 2021-2022 school year.

Dictionaries The Rotary Club of Nome has been providing dictionaries to third grade classes in Nome, Alaska for over 15 years. Funds will be used to purchase new updated dictionaries for approximately 50 students. Club members will be involved prepping books for dispersal and participating in distribution. Books will be ordered in August or early September and anticipated project completion on or about November 1,2021 ($350 Cost)

Rotary Readers - Rotarians and friends of Rotarians will volunteer to read to small groups of students at the Nome Elementary School every other month during the 2021-2020 school year. The goal is not only to show Rotary's support for literacy and mentoring of youth, but also our efforts to recruit new club members with literacy classifications. (Zero Cost)

Inupiaq Immersion Classroom Program Support. Immersion programs help young students understand other cultures, improve their learning, and hopefully one day help them in the workplace. These benefits are especially valuable for all students in rural communities. And the effects of language immersion do not stay within the walls of the classroom. Community members recognize the benefits and work of the schools and are inspired to learn the language and support children in their learning when hearing Native languages utilities in daily life. Immersion programming is uniquely planned and implement. The Inupiaq Immersion Classroom is in its second year of operation and this is the first year with Grade 1 students. This grant money will be used to purchase Inupiaq specific learning materials for the classroom. Rotarians also plan to visit the classroom 4 times throughout the school year to engage in mentoring in support through art activities. ($2650)

All funds have been spent, so I am now working on finishing up the grant for this year. We have two more upcoming classroom/field trip activities for photo opportunities and chances for Rotarian interactions with students in the next 3 weeks. Should have that completed and additional photos uploaded and all other necessary paperwork submitted by April 20th. Thank you. Adam
