As a result of the current COVID crisis, the number of recipients that the Valley View Community Food Bank(VVCFB) normally services, has doubled. Nearly 400,000 food boxes have been distributed to those suffering from food insecurities (including seniors, families, children, single parents, veterans, and homeless). Unfortunately there has been a significant amount of resources unable to be received due to the lack of existing warehousing space to stage such resources.
This project will help meet the growing needs associated with food insecurities while increasing the ability to receive additional resources to meet those needs. The Rotary Club of Surprise Sunset will partner with the VVCFB, other organizations, and individuals to see the development of a new 5,000 sqft staging warehouse. Not only will this project increase the capacity to receive more food resources, but it will also serve as an additional location for the Rotary Club of Surprise Sunset and other monthly organizational volunteer programs to transpire.
We anticipate groundbreaking and construction of the new staging warehouse to begin mid-July 2021, with doors being ready for installation late August-September 2021.
In recognition of Rotary International's 2021-2022 motto of "Serve to Change Lives", our Club seeks to put this into a practical application through aiding the Valley View Community Food Bank and the community it serves. Project funds received will go directly towards the sponsorship costs associated with the purchase and installation of two roll-up warehouse doors for the Valley View Community Food Bank's new distribution warehouse located in El Mirage, AZ. A recognition plaque will also be placed with the doors to acknowledge our Club's commitment to ongoing community service.
Short term, club members will participate in fundraising efforts associated with the Club's portion of the District Grant, along with involvement opportunities that might be available with the installation of the two sponsored roll-up warehouse doors. Long term, these doors will open opportunities for continued future support through volunteer activities directly associated with the Valley View Community Food Bank, its clients, and other Phoenix Valley food banks and pantries.
