Project Description

Country: USA

Location: Idaho Falls

Total Budget: $5,000

Area of Focus: Maternal and child health

Activity Type: Food/Agriculture: Volunteer Services

Summary: Products and Service for IF Soup Kitchen Community Meals Summer 2021

During COVID, the Idaho Falls Rotary Club was donating all funds that were coming in from members for meals to the Idaho Falls Soup Kitchen, rather than stopping collection of these funds. Now that our club is resuming in-person meetings, we'd like to continue our support of this vital organization in our community.

NEED: Due to COVID, the Idaho Falls Soup Kitchen continues to provide pre-packaged meals to the people they serve. The pre-packaged meals cost approximately $0.50 per day to provide packaging, utensils, napkins, water bottles, etc. The Soup Kitchen serves approximately 130 people per day, 7 days per week.

TIMELINE: Plan to distribute funds to the Soup Kitchen upon approval of the grant. The project is expected to conclude at the end of August when the Soup Kitchen plans to resume serving plated meals in their dining room and suspending pre-packaged meals.

CLUB MEMBER INVOLVEMENT: During June, July, and August, Rotarians from our club will also help transport goods from the Idaho Falls Community Food Basket to the Soup Kitchen each week.

Club projects are compiled by D5400 into a block grant application to The Rotary Foundation that we submit around the 1st of July. We will not hear back from TRF for several weeks if our grant is approved. It is a TRF restriction that grant recipients can't be reimbursed for expenses incurred prior to the approval of a grant. Be sure not to incur any expenses before the approval of your grant.

Your spending plan = $455/week. It would be good if you extended the math to show the number of weeks of support you want to provide supplies. The grant is for FY2021-22, so you can't start in June. Clubs cannot be reimbursed for expenses incurred prior to the approval, usually about mid-July. I recommend deleting from your narrative everything about what you did this year with the Soup Kitchen, getting right to what you're asking for a grant to help you do. Your start date should be around Aug 1st. This would provide more clarity to your application and be consistent with Rotary Foundation Terms & Conditions. Your title says "Meals"; should it be "Utensils"? The application must be signed by 6/1/21 by primary contact & incoming president to be considered for inclusion in the block grant.

To be considered for a district grant, your application must be signed by both your club grant chair and 2021-2022 club president. Navigate to the Description page, and click Start Club Signature Process to get started. If you have any questions, reach out to Ines Crespo at 208-320-8494 or ines@glassinbalance.com.

On May 27, you received an email suggesting changes to your grant application to conform with Rotary Foundation Terms & Conditions. You should make those changes as soon as possible, then start the signature process on the administration side of the description tab. Deadline for signed applications was June 1. Unsigned applications cannot be considered for funding, but late applications have a chance at some funding.

Applications for Rotary Foundation district grants must be signed by June 1st to be eligible for funding in the ensuing grant year. Because you did not sign your application, it was not considered when the committee considered club projects for inclusion in the block grant application to TRF. This project will be dropped from matchinggrants.org, our online application website. It's recommended that you start the application process early to mid May of 2022 to give your club adequate time to complete the application process before the June 1st deadline for signed applications.
