Project beneficiaries are approximately 1200 3rd graders in the Glendale Elementary School District, the vast majority of whom qualify for free or reduced school lunch given their socioeconomic status. Dictionaries promote literacy and are needed as determined through a needs assessment survey of 3rd grade teachers from the Glendale Elementary School District.
The students receiving the dictionaries use them throughout their elementary and secondary education and take them home for personal use. Third grade is critical for reading and writing literacy to ensure the students can continue to read/write at grade-level and complete education requirements to matriculate and graduate on time to become successful citizens in our community.
Project start date: 9/1/21
Project end date: 12/15/21
Club members will work with a Glendale Elementary School District Principal to purchase, label, and distribute approximately 1200 dictionaries at the 12 school campuses to reach every 3rd grader. The label has our Club name and the Rotary 4-way test on it and will be affixed to every dictionary distributed to highlight Rotary's contribution to this project. All Club members will contribute by labeling and distributing the dictionaries. Members from other Rotary Clubs may be asked to help as a volunteer and community service opportunity.
