Country: USA

Location: San Diego

Total Budget: $3,000

Area of Focus: Maternal and child health

Activity Type: Health: General

Summary: Five computers & equipment to support distribution of newborn essential items to 200 per month low-income pregnant women and families with young children.

Organization:

Birthline of San Diego, CA (birthlineofsandiego.org),is a 501c3 (EIN: 33-0014261) who provides life-affirming support and resources to low-income pregnant women and families with young children. They serve over 200 clients per month with no cost supplies, food, diapers, formula, clothing, newborn essentials, and numerous baby items. In addition they provide referrals for the most basic of needs, safe housing, food resources, job training, education and access to prenatal care and healthcare.

Need:

Birthline accepts & stores donations of newborn essentials and food. Items are administered on computers. They process over 200 clients per month. Process and administration requires computers to schedule appoints and manage client database. Currently Birthline's computers & software are over 10 years old and are becoming obsolete. This has impacted delivery of services to client families and volunteers as well. The effect and has produced excessive frustration and productivity loss.

Project:

The purchase of five refurbished computers & software will eliminate the issues of client services delivery and donation management. In addition, Birthline will have the capacity to expand their service offerings. This has direct impact on 200+ per month, pregnant women and families with young children and most needed volunteers.

PLRC Participation:

PLRC has been a long-time supporter and partner of Birthline of San Diego County, Inc. Birthline has many volunteer opportunities available to PLRC members from collecting and sorting in-kind donations, hosting a "baby shower", meeting with clients as a case manager, translation services.

Timeline:

Computers and software will be installed within 3 months of receipt of funding.

Public Relations:

PLRC and Birthline will post News Update on website and Facebook.
