Summary: Sioux Falls Rotary South would support this project in assisting in initial design, ground prep, and planting of the area. Option for ongoing volunteer opportunities to weed pull and plant annual pollinators.


The mission of Avera is to make a positive impact on the lives and health of persons and communities by providing quality services guided by Christian values.

Establish a meditation/reflection garden within or near the existing St. Francis Community Garden on the Avera On Louise Health Campus. The community garden is located within close proximity and is accessible to residents of the Avera Addiction Care Center. Plants within the garden would primarily be perennial pollinator plants that are native or grow well in the area.

Project could begin in the Fall of 2021 for the planning and initial planting efforts, with project completion planned for Spring 2022. On-going involvement from the club for regular garden care projects.


Addendum to Project Description (added after the project was signed)

We'd like to amend our completion date. As we are still in the process of purchasing our bench and plaque, we'd like to extend this grant until the Winter of 2023. The same funds will be used. Nothing new is being added. We just need more time as we are getting into the fall/winter months now.

As of June 2, we have visited the pollinator garden site and made plans for what we are hoping to grow and do over the summer. Our next steps are to purchase our garden supplies, a plaque or memorial rock for SF Rotary South and start planning to do the gardening.

The pollinator garden has been established and monitored since summer 2022. We have done some meetings at the garden to tend to the weeding and upkeep of the area. Our next step is to purchase a bench and plaque with Rotary South signage for the garden area.
