Community Development: Construction/Renovation
Summary: Construct 2000 SF Hope Center in Southeast Denton to provide space for a health clinic, food pantry, homeless outreach, and youth mentoring program.
The City of Denton has identified southeast Denton as an underserved neighborhood for decades.
The only operating food pantry and health clinic are at Mount Calvary Baptist Church. The church uses its Sunday School rooms to provide the space to operate which means the church has to continually change the use of its rooms between Sunday School and community services. This project would construct a 2000 square foot building adjacent to the church which would provide dedicated space for the clinic, pantry, homeless outreach, and youth mentoring programs. The dedicated space would improve the capability of the church to provide continual services instead of being limited to weekends. They are working with First Refuge Ministries which provides the volunteers and delivers the food from the North Texas Food Bank. They are requesting $25000 spread over two years.
