Project Description

Country: USA

Location: Fairbanks

Total Budget: $4,600

Areas of Focus: Basic education and literacy, The environment

Activity Type: Food/Agriculture: General

Summary: Exhibit organizer funding for Georgeson Botanical Garden's first educational installation in Fairbanks, Alaska.

One in three bites of food we eat depends on pollinators. Pollination is important for a strong, healthy ecosystem and is essential for plant reproduction. Our club is excited to become involved in an educational project within the environmental focus area. This project will also continue our decades-long support of the Georgeson Botanical Garden (GBG) by supporting its first exhibit. The multi-featured pollinator display will be installed and maintained for 3-5 years. The purpose is to educate the public about insect pollinators of Interior Alaska and their importance, especially in relation to the food we eat. The exhibit will engage the public through interpretive panels, an interactive scavenger hunt, and a display pollinator garden. The GBG has partnered with the Smithsonian Institute, City of Fairbanks, and Fairbanks Soil & Water Conservation District to obtain materials and content for the installation. The success of this project relies on a temporary Exhibit Organizer to ensure a smooth, professional launch in 2022. The Exhibit Organizer will finish remaining edits of interpretive panels and interactive brochure, organize and manage ordering materials and supplies, oversee installation and conduct outreach and promotion about the exhibit. Rotarians will volunteer to support the activities of the Exhibit Organizer.
