Project Description

Country: USA

Location: Ogallala

Total Budget: $2,000

Area of Focus: Community economic development

Activity Type: Community Development: General

Summary: A commemorative community bench honoring the Ogallala Rotary Club's 100th anniversary will be installed at the splash pad in Collister Park, Ogallala, Nebraska, providing much needed seating for families and visitors.

The Rotary Club of Ogallala is celebrating its 100th anniversary by installing a commemorative community bench at the splash pad in Collister Park. Located next to the YMCA, the splash pad is one of Ogallala's busiest family destinations during the summer. While benches are available in other areas of the park, there is currently no seating adjacent to the splash pad, leaving parents, grandparents, and caregivers without a convenient place to supervise children.

This project will address that need by providing a permanent bench in a high use area, creating a more comfortable and accessible space for families and visitors. The location was intentionally chosen because the splash pad was made possible through a collaborative effort between the Ogallala Rotary Club and other local organizations, making it a meaningful place to recognize Rotary's 100 years of service to the community. As a permanent addition to a well used public space, the bench will serve the community for years to come while reflecting Rotary's commitment to Service Above Self.

District grant funds will help purchase the commemorative bench, including the engraved inscription recognizing the Rotary Club of Ogallala's 100th anniversary. The City of Ogallala has approved the project, and club members are coordinating with city staff to finalize the installation site before the concrete pad is poured to ensure existing irrigation lines are not affected. The bench has already been ordered and is expected to arrive in early fall 2026. The club is also partnering with another local organization to assist with constructing the concrete pad.

Rotary club members will coordinate the project, work alongside community partners during site preparation and installation, and install the bench. Upon completion, the club will host a public dedication ceremony celebrating its 100th anniversary. The event will include community members, the City of Ogallala, the Chamber of Commerce, fellow Rotarians, and other community partners who have supported this project. Project completion is anticipated in fall 2026.
