Project Title: Coastal Conservation Care


Project Description

1. Describe the project. What was done, when and where did project activities take place?

The Coastal Conservation Care project provided funds to the Living Coast Discovery Center to support educational and outreach programs that were delivered virtually due to COVID. Students engaged in programs remotely from home via their computers.

2. How many people benefited from this project? 32 classes of students (approx 780-900 students)

3. Who were the beneficiaries, how were they impacted by this project, and what humanitarian need was met?

The beneficiaries were local K-8th grade students from six local public elementary schools who received interactive educational lessons related to conservation, wetlands preservation, and species rehabilitation.

4. How many Rotarians participated in the project? none--virtual due to COVID

5. What did they do? Please give at least two examples, not including financial support provided to the project.

Rotarians learned more about how to support virtual community educational programs to supplement the California science curriculum and how the conservation and species rehabilitation efforts of the Living Coast Discovery Center are currently being shared with students and with the public.

6. If a cooperating organization was involved, what was its role?

The Living Coast Discovery Center works with the Chula Vista and South Bay Elementary School Districts to provide educational science lessons. Due to COVID, the lessons were delivered virtually via Microsoft Teams with on site footage provided by Living Coast community educators.
