District Grant Final Report

District 5340

2021-22

Rotary Club: Chula Vista Sunrise

Project Title: Generating Hope

Project Description

1. Describe the project. What was done, when and where did project activities take place?

Chula Vista Sunrise Rotary collected and donated donated shoes, hygiene items, bedding and professional clothing to GenerateHope residents in July 2021. GenerateHope offers a refuge to victims of sex trafficking by offering a real way out. Since 2009, this non-profit has been San Diego's pioneer in long-term housing, care, and recovery for young women who have survived the complex traumas of sex trafficking.

2. How many people benefited from this project? 16-22

3. Who were the beneficiaries, how were they impacted by this project, and what humanitarian need was met?

The beneficiaries were the victims of sex-trafficking who are receiving transitional housing, educational resources, health and counseling services, and job-skills training at GenerateHope. According to the FBI, San Diego is one of the top 8 cities for commercial sexual exploitation of children across the country. When victims are taken into GenerateHope, they often have few to no possessions, so donations are constantly needed.

4. How many Rotarians participated in the project? 22

5. What did they do? Please give at least two examples, not including financial support provided to the project.

GenerateHope is a non-profit that sponsors sex trafficking victims for up to two years in a confidential safe house while providing residents with a stable home environment supported by a daily program of trauma therapy, healing activities, formal GED and college support education and training, vocational preparation, and community-living readiness. All care is provided by GenerateHope at no cost.

6. If a cooperating organization was involved, what was its role?

There was no cooperating organization involved with this project.
