Project Title: Changing Lives of 59 Children


Project Description

1. Describe the project. What was done, when and where did project activities take place?

The main purpose of the project contributed to changing the lives of children living in El Salvador in rual communities, and under poverty conditions, who are also at risk for suffering from malnutrition and have no access to preschool education, because in their community there is no public kindergarden.The project was named Children Early Stimulation Centers (CEDIS) and served the following communities in El Salvador: El Almendro, Sonsonate, and Chupadero Chalatenango. The children and families in the program participated in the following activiyties:

1- Preschool Education

2- Health and Nutrition Programs

3- Environmental Care and Food Production

4- Family Schools

5- Community Participation

Preschool Education consisted of the following: Early stimulation was performed, mainly in a playful way, to stimulate the following areas: motor coordination, social, memory, language, perception, attention to math,reading and writing.

Health and Nutrition: The following activities were performed: Health care every trimester to follow up on weight and height to make sure there is no malnutiion, delivery of food baskets, and

assesment on healthy diet for each family involved in the project.

Environmental Care and Foodl Production: The following are the activities for this phase of the project: Development of a proper waste delivery and recycling program for the familes, and delivery of chickes to the families for food production.

Family Schools: The following are the activities for this part of the project: Parents of children participating in the program attended meetings at the beginnin of the school to year to encourage activitve involvment with there children attending the program.

Community Participation: The following are the activities for this phase of the program: Community families and leaders, as wll as local stakeholders worked together to improve the appeaence of the community, which involved, but not limited, to painting, upgrading homes and making sure the area was clean and sanitzed.

2. How many people benefited from this project? 58 children and families in 2021 and 59 children and families in 2022.

3. Who were the beneficiaries, how were they impacted by this project, and what humanitarian need was met?

The beneficiaries of the program where between 50 to 60 preschool children ages 4 to 6 years of age who attended the CEDI program each year of the project. Of this group of children half were succesful and entered the 1st grade. This group of children who attended the 1st grade demonstrated good academic and social results. The parents, through there training, were very supported of the children attending school. The humanitarian need that were met, was the ability of some of these children to attend school. Without this project many if not all these children would not attend school. Another need met was attaching the issue of povery, food and enviromental needs. Hopefully, these chidlren will continue in school, graduate and be able to break the cycle of poverty and assist their familits.
