Rotary Club: North County San Diego-Route 78 Project Title: Scholarships for Latinas 1. Describe the project. What was done, when and where did project activities take place? MANA de North County had 9 high school seniors in our mentoring program and they each submitted a scholarship application two weeks ago. Our board met and selected 3 girls to receive a scholarship from Rotary; the remaining girls received scholarships from other sources. We had our credit union write cashier's checks and a pdf of the photo of the checks was uploaded to DOCUMENTS.We did not have a jpg to upload (this site doesn't accept png). The girls will receive a letter stating the amount and source of their scholarship at our private graduation ceremony on June 1 and the checks will be mailed directly to the universities. 2. How many people benefited from this project? 3 3. Who were the beneficiaries, how were they impacted by this project, and what humanitarian need was met? High school seniors Wendy Savalza from CHS, Vania Duran and Frida Ayala from Sage Creek HS Carlsbad. They are all first generation college students from low income families, so these scholarships, combined with the funds they will receive from the government, will enable them to attend college! 4. How many Rotarians participated in the project? 1 5. What did they do? Please give at least two examples, not including financial support provided to the project. Rotarian Corie De Anda mentored the girls, helped them with their college applications and scholarship essays to other private scholarships and together with the other members of the MANA de North County board, voted to award them scholarships. The amounts vary according to the cost of the college. 6. If a cooperating organization was involved, what was its role? MANA de North County provides the mentoring program and wrote the checks. 7.
