District Grant Final Report

District 5610

2021-22

Rotary Club: Le Mars

Project Title: 'Then Feed Just One' Packing

Project Description

1. Indicate the type of grant.

2. What was done, when and where did project activities take place, and who were the beneficiaries?

The Le Mars Rotary Club held a "Then Feed Just One" packing even to package lifesaving meals for children in Honduras in Central America. We met on January 12, 2022 at the warehouse of TFJO Organization in Le Mars. A pallet contained 14,256 meals of non-perishable foods including rice, soy, freeze-dried vegetables and a powder of minerals and vitamins.

3. What Area(s) of Focus did this project fulfill? (Optional for CAP Grant.) Check all that apply.
This may be different than that initially entered into matchinggrants.org and should represent analysis of actual results of the project.
  - Maternal & Child Health

4. How many Rotarians participated in the project? 7

5. How many person-hours did Rotarians contribute to this project? 16 hours

6. How many people participated in total? 20

7. How many total person-hours were contributed to this project? 45

8. What did they do? Please give at least two examples, not including financial support provided to the project.

The seven Rotary members and thirteen spouses and friends physically formed two packing lines where the 4 ingredients were layered in plastic food bags and were then weighed to insure that the bags met the desired weight, packages were then heat sealed, and food packages of 20 were boxed and added to a pallet which would later be shipped via barge to Central America. Interestingly the barge that cooperates with TJFO is a Dole barge. Each of the 20 boxes had a label indicated it's origin with the Le Mars Rotary Club, Le Mars, Iowa USA.

9. How many non-Rotarians benefited from this project? (needs to be an actual number) As many as 14,256 children

10. What are the expected long-term community impacts of the project?

The Feed One meals arrived in Honduras within a month and were on the ground being distributed to starving children. We have been told that the meal or meals the individual child received could mean life or death at that time. The "Then Just Feed One" organization sends meal from many groups like ours from multiple groups an in a multi state area. Their mission is broad and we were a small part of the overall mission.

11. If a cooperating organization was involved, please identify it and describe the role it played.

The "Then Just Feed One" non-profit organization is located in Le Mars Iowa, the home of the Le Mars Rotary Club. TJFO provided their warehouse as a packing location, ordered the supplies, and gave instruction to our group of volunteers. TJFO arranged for the transport of the pallet to Central America.
