Rotary Club: Anchorage Russian Jack Project Title: Youth Peer Mediation Training 1. Describe the project. What was done, when and where did project activities take place? This Grant was created for the purpose of starting a training program for High School students to provide training in the concepts and skill of Peer Mediation and Alternative Dispute Resolution. It addressed the Rotary goals of Conflict Resolution and Youth Education. The program was administered in conjunction with the Anchorage Youth Court program. The timeline and activities of this project were: April 5, 2022. Grant Proposal Submitted by Anchorage Russian Jack Rotary, Initial Budget was $5,000 for Peer Mediation/ADR training program to be conducted though the Anchorage Youth Court program. April 2022, Grant Budget Proposal Increased to $10,000, with additional funding and participation by Anchorage East and International Rotary Clubs. This full grant proposal was approved by Dist. 5010, Grant No. P-4197. The grant funds were paid to and then administered by Russian Jack Rotary. July 28, 2022. Terms of Youth Peer Mediation Grant agreed to and memo signed by Executive Director of Anchorage Youth Court and the undersigned on behalf of Rotary. November 11, 2022. Initial Training class held. November 17, 2022. Report on Initial Training class; Initial Invoice for class expenses in the amount of $1,710; Invoice Paid from Grant funds. February 2023, training, used manuals already purchased, and donated classroom space. March 28, 2023. Meeting with Executive Director of Anchorage Youth Court, to discuss and plan future classes, purchase of additional training materials, and schedule. April 1, 2023, Report to East, International Clubs, and Dist. 5010 Grant advisor regarding future plans, and options of paying balance of grant this fiscal year, or rolling over to next fiscal year. April 2023. Decision to pay balance of funds this year, as a restricted grant for use for future training materials and classes. April 2023. Presentation by Anchorage Youth Court on this program to International Rotary. Additional presentation by the Anchorage Youth Court, was given to Russian Jack Rotary in June 2023. (Outreach and presentation to local Rotary clubs was part of the terms of the grant). May 8, 2023. Agreement and plan documented between Rotary and Anchorage Youth Court regarding payment of balance of funds as restricted grant for use for future training materials, and future classes, and schedule for next classes in July, 2023, fall 2023, at statewide Youth Court conference in October 5, 6, and 7 2023, and outreach program Anchorage School District regarding this training. May 10, 2023. Final disbursement of balance of $10,000 grant for additional manuals, and costs of future training was paid to Anchorage Youth Court. May 10, 2023, History Log updated and copies of documentation filed with Rotary Grant website to close grant. Final report to East and International Clubs. 2. How many people benefited from this project? Approximately 20-30 students. The program will continue and it is anticipated that an equal or greater number will receive benefits of this grant. 3. Who were the beneficiaries, how were they impacted by this project, and what humanitarian need was met? This Project was for a Peer Mediation/ Alternative Dispute Resolution training program for High School Students. The program was administered though the Anchorage Youth Court Program. AYC has a large program of training High school students in legal and courtroom procedures and ethics, and handles prosecution, defense and adjudication of criminal matters involving young offenders through a diversion program. This grant builds on a program to train the Youth Court participants in Alternative dispute and peer mediation skills and concepts, using standard training materials. The classes were conducted by volunteer professional mediator, and involved both lecture and role playing aspects, with feedback from the presenter and observers. The training classes were very successful in giving a good introduction to the subject. 4. How many Rotarians participated in the project? 4 directly in the training classes, plus approximately 50 who had presentations on the program 5. What did they do? Please give at least two examples, not including financial support provided to the project. Prepare teaching materials and Conducted the training classes; Attended the training as observers/assistants to monitor the role-playing sessions and give feedback on skill development and techniques; assisted in proposals to Anchorage School district and select High Schools, to expand the initial training into a broader peer mediation program for the schools. 6. If a cooperating organization was involved, what was its role? Anchorage Youth Court. The AYC was involved to schedule the classes, advertise and sign up participants, obtained the classroom facilities. It purchased the training manuals. Remaining funds in the grant were disbursed to AYC to continue the program, obtain additional training materials, and schedule and conduct future classes using Rotarians and volunteer trainers, in the summer of 2023 and upcoming school year. This project was started by Anchorage Russian Jack Rotary, and there was additional funding and participation, by the Anchorage East and International Rotary Clubs. Also, as part of the grant requirement, Anchorage Youth Court made presentations to those clubs regarding the program. 7. Income
