Provide humanitarian assistance to the farm associated with the Mwami Hospital, consisting of a tractor, health education, farming and agriculture education, and greenhouse construction. The farm sustains the operations of the hospital (150 employees) and the nursing school. The government mandates free health care, but has reduced their financial support. The number of students and patients has been steadily increasing each year.
SUSTAINABILITY
The initial request came from Dr. Hart of Loma Linda University Hospital to the Redlands Sunrise Rotary Club. They had received a request directly from the Mwami Hospital for a new tractor to replace the old one. After meetings with the hospital administrator, Enok Chitawka, the head of the nursing school and the hospital's surgeon (in October 2014), we identified additional needs. These included the greenhouse construction and farming education.
DDF contributions in grey are pending approval of the corresponding district committee.
Note: as of July 1, 2015 there is a 5% additional support fee for cash contributions. This fee does not appear in the financials above because it does not apply if the funds are sent directly to the project account (without going through TRF, and therefore without Paul Harris credit). Clubs sending their cash contribution to TRF must be aware they will have to send an additional 5%.
