Pediatric cardiology - complicated division of pediatric sciences, which demands highly accurate diagnosis (including prenatal) and urgent specialized care.
300-400 children are born with congenital heart defects annually. Nearly 30-40% among them are - critical congenital heart defects (CHD), which demand urgent intensive care medical care, stabilization of the general state, transportation during the first hours of life and surgical treatment during the first 7-10 days of life.
All children with the suspicion of CHD are directed to Lviv Regional Children's Hospital "OCHMATDYT". Nearly 4000-6000 children receive medical help on the basis of this hospital.
Children, who are cannot be transported to the hospital have to be diagnosed by Lviv regional Children's cardiologist in urgent manner.
Monthly outpatient consultations of all the regions in Lviv Oblast are conducted by the mobile brigade, in order to eliminate congenital pathology.
Children that are on inpatient care also demand portable echo diagnosis, as the stationary machine with continuous Doppler is situated in outpatient clinic, which is not connected to the main building of the Hospital.
The diagnosis is performed with portable ultrasound machine "My Sono", without Doppler flow detection. The machine was bought by international Rotary Club, as part of "West-Ukrainian initiative of children's health care" program in 2003. Owing to this project, center for "information-diagnostic for congenital heart pathology diagnosis" has been created on the basis of Lviv Regional children's Hospital.
Therefore, in order to improve substantial diagnosis, urgent treatment and following surgical correction for children with CHD of Lviv Region, portable ultrasound machine with color Doppler is essentailly needed.
