Ground water throughout the region is highly contaminated with arsenic and fluoride. Both of these elements in excess create serious health issues. Rainwater harvested into self-constructed ferro-cement cisterns can provide safe drinking water for families up to 8 persons.
With this grant we will continue to bring opportunities to families who are willing to work in teams to self-construct family cisterns. We have completed 1,101 of these since 2008. The project funds are for 282 more cisterns and includes construction materials, community organization, education, training, and monitoring to ensure sustainability. We hope to fund this project in October 2017 and will work through December of 2018 to completion.
Five members of the local club are actively involved in organization, project management, oversight and monitoring.

Note: as of July 1, 2015 there is a 5% additional support fee for cash contributions. This fee does not appear in the financials above because it does not apply if the funds are sent directly to the project account (without going through TRF, and therefore without Paul Harris credit). Clubs sending their cash contribution to TRF must be aware they will have to send an additional 5%.
