Project Description

Region: Africa

Country: South Africa

Location: Hillcrest

Total Budget: $36,500

Area of Focus: Maternal and child health

Ikhethelo Childrens Village for Orphans and Vulnerable Children houses children in cottages which desperately needs to be refurbished and upgraded for the health and security of the children. There is also a training centre on site which badly needs to be refurbished and upgraded. The funds will be utilised to paint the quarters and also replace appliances, beds and other furniture in the cottages. The training centre requires painting, furniture and Audio visual equipment for training staff, teaching aids for the children and also the local community which utilises the facilities. This could take up to 6 months to complete from the time of receiving funding.

DDF contributions in grey are pending approval of the corresponding district committee.

Note: as of July 1, 2015 there is a 5% additional support fee for cash contributions. This fee does not appear in the financials above because it does not apply if the funds are sent directly to the project account (without going through TRF, and therefore without Paul Harris credit). Clubs sending their cash contribution to TRF must be aware they will have to send an additional 5%.

D5340 has completely depleted our DDF for the 2017-2018 Rotary year. Therefore, we cannot approve the DDF at this time. We anticipate beginning to approve DDF for the 2018-2019 Rotary year in late March, 2018. If you would like the DDF to be considered, please move the Rotary year designation for this grant to 2018-2019. Let me know if you have any questions. Janice@janicekurth.com

At our District Foundation Committee meeting on April 9, the DDF for this project was approved with the exception of $1664 of DDF for Carlsbad. Carlsbad Rotary was approved for only $5000 of DDF as this brought them to their maximum. Therefore, before the grant can be submitted, $1664 of additional DDF and the TRF match must be pledged for this project. Please let me know if you have any questions. Sincerely, Janice Kurth janice@janicekurth.com
