Project Description

Region: North America

Country: USA

Location: San Diego

Total Budget: $32,000

Area of Focus: Disease prevention and treatment

The project is to support Ms. Alexandra Almeida's first year of doctoral training in research to help improve access to health care and treatment for individuals who are co-infected with HIV/AIDS and Tuberculosis (TB) and are substance users. The main objectives of the project are to: a) identify barriers and facilitators to accessing health care and treatment for this population, and b) identify potential interventions that could help them access health care to treat their HIV and TB infection and substance use problems. This doctoral training will provide foundational educational experience and research skills that Alexandra will be able to apply in Brazil to help improve the health of individuals co-infected with HIV/AIDS and TB and who are also substance users.

Note: as of July 1, 2015 there is a 5% additional support fee for cash contributions. This fee does not appear in the financials above because it does not apply if the funds are sent directly to the project account (without going through TRF, and therefore without Paul Harris credit). Clubs sending their cash contribution to TRF must be aware they will have to send an additional 5%.
