A PROJECT FOR EDUCATION & TRAINING OF 100+ MENTALLY CHALLENGED CHILDREN
FOCUS AREA:
This is a large-scale community project with focus on providing assistance to mentally Challenged children to facilitate their commute from their respective homes to and from the school to attend training, counselling, etc and thus help in providing a career opportunity to mentally challenged students coming from lower strata of the society. This project partially covers 2 focus areas for Global Grants - Basic Education & literacy and Economic & Community Development.
PROJECT NEED:
Mentally retarded children coming from lower strata of society have limited opportunities for education and learning. Their parents face financial challenges and also lack of support to take them to an appropriate training & nurturing center, like VDIS, for training and skilling. Vallabh Das Dagara Indian Society (VDIS) has been providing such training and education to mentally retarded, financially challenged people.
A new bus for transporting children between their homes and the training centre is needed as the existing bus is 8 years old and requires replacement as per local regulatory authority. Without the bus, the training of the children would get severely impacted.
The project proposes to provide a bus to (VDIS) for Mentally Challenged children to facilitate their commute from their respective homes to and from the school to attend training, counseling, etc. VDIS is currently running a bus for this purpose but, as per Govt. regulations, a school bus has to be replaced after every eight years. Hence the need for a new bus as the old bus has to be replaced in a few months.
The proposed 50-seater bus will run in two shifts to cater to about 100 children with special needs.
