For many Costa Ricans, dental care is unaffordable. Tirrases a vulnerable community with 23,000 people living in poor conditions with 50% of immigrants, have to walk far to a Social Security Clinic to have a dental appointment, as well as wait for an appointment for as long as one year.
The project will address dental needs and provide affordable and easy access to dental care, oral health, and preventative education. This will be accomplished by providing clinical services and oral health education to pregnant women, children, elderly and other population groups in Costa Rica. The project will support and train dental hygienists, dental assistants, and provide graduates students at Meharry Medical School of Dentistry the opportunity of student residency in Costa Rica.
Through the development of a school-based, school-linked dental clinic sealant and applied fluoride program it will; increase the percentage and number of clients seen; improve access to oral health by delivering both prevention and dental procedures, and expand access to oral health education in schools and the community.
The Global Grant will be utilized to outfit a clinic with the necessary medical equipment and supplies (dentist chairs, lamps, x-ray machines, basic instrument, air compressor, sealant) needed to run daily operations.
Lewisville Morning Rotary Club, along with various clubs in District 5790 (Fort Worth, Denton County and other clubs in Texas) will support this grant. Rotarians, members of Rotaract, Interact and volunteers will participate to help complete the project.

DDF contributions in grey are pending approval of the corresponding district committee.
Note: as of July 1, 2015 there is a 5% additional support fee for cash contributions. This fee does not appear in the financials above because it does not apply if the funds are sent directly to the project account (without going through TRF, and therefore without Paul Harris credit). Clubs sending their cash contribution to TRF must be aware they will have to send an additional 5%.

Lewisville Morning Rotary continues to host fund raisers and seek partner clubs to close the funding gap.
Inasmuch as we will not be able to close that gap before June 30, 2019, we have rolled the project into the 2019-2020 Rotary year.
We seek to obtain complete funding by Aug 1 which will provide adequate time for TRF approval and equipment purchase prior to Nov grand opening of dental clinic.

System Entry: Project dropped by Philippe Lamoise.
Reason for dropping: Requested by John Pokorny: It's with great disappointment that we must let you know that the Lewisville Morning Rotary Club, in partnership with the Rotary Club of San Pedro - Curridabat Costa Rica, are needing to cancel our global grant application to provide equipment for a dental clinic in Tirrases Costa Rica. While we successfully raised the required funds for the grant project, and the host club in Costa Rica has made significant progress toward establishing a dental clinic in Tirrases, obstacles resulting from the current COVID-19 pandemic have made continuing the project at this time impossible given the grant deadlines and changing municipal government requirements and University support in Costa Rica.
