Area of Focus: Peacebuilding and conflict prevention
These schools serve as kindergarten, elementary, and special needs classrooms in the morning, high school classrooms in the afternoon and college in the evening. There are 2,000 students in the school system.
This Global Grant is designed to dramatically change and improve 5 Mayan rural schools in the municipality of Antigua Guatemala and in its impoverished neighboring villages. It will focus on preventing bulling, eliminating teen marriages and early pregnancies, reducing drug use and limiting gang membership. It will strengthen positive relationships between students and their families and emphasize important social values and promote respect and collaboration between the students.
We will educate students, teachers, principals, community leaders and, most importantly, parents on identifying and resolving conflict through workshops. If we teach the children these skills we can impact the society for the future.

DDF contributions in grey are pending approval of the corresponding district committee.
Note: as of July 1, 2015 there is a 5% additional support fee for cash contributions. This fee does not appear in the financials above because it does not apply if the funds are sent directly to the project account (without going through TRF, and therefore without Paul Harris credit). Clubs sending their cash contribution to TRF must be aware they will have to send an additional 5%.
