Project Description

Region: South America

Country: Argentina

Location: Villa Nueva

Total Budget: $33,000

Area of Focus: Community economic development

Sewing protected workshop

The city of Villa Nueva is a historic city of the department. Gral. San Martín of the Province of Córdoba. With large industries dedicated only to the transformation of milk, product of its important development as a dairy basin, it is peripheral to the capital city of the Department of San Martín, Villa María, a much more modern city with greater industrial development. Thus, important urban conglomerates have developed around its historic center, doubling the number of registered plots from 5,000 to 10,000, as its tax treatment is more economical and having more affordable plots of land.

It is the prototype of dormitory city, because the highest degree of occupation is carried out in Villa María, returning to this city to "sleep".

For the native population, job opportunities are diminished, as it is a large sector with fewer resources, with low training, women being more affected, occupied in household maintenance and raising children.

That is why the Villa Nueva Rotary club, unique in the city of some 35,000 inhabitants, has proposed to the local municipality the development of a work scope to install, through this global grant proposal, a series of sew, embroider, cut, etc. in order to build a "protected" workshop where the trade of seamstresses of fabrics and leather goods is taught, to this population group that, today is without certain possibilities of joining the labor market.

The Municipality, in addition to contributing the sum of $ 15,000 to that end, that is, building the building for the protected workshop, will provide education through the Ministry of Culture, providing classes at all levels, while, for the administrative part, it is expected to create a Labor Cooperative that nuclee to these workers and can promote them, from self-employed to mini SMEs. That is why it is expected to buy family-type machines and also industrial-type machines.

The incorporation to the group will be voluntary and without cost, hoping to cover the demand of training to more than 500 people according to the survey carried out in the first measurement by the Municipality.

A special, an agreement with the League of Family Mothers will ensure the participation of a large group of single mothers, whom they attend regularly.
