Project Description Region: Asia Country: India Location: Vuyyuru, Andhra Pradesh Total Budget: $290,000 Area of Focus: Disease prevention and treatment Identification of Needs : Vuyyuru is a small town in Krishna District, Andhra Pradesh, India, inhabited by about 50,000 people, majority belonging to the agricultural community.The Rotary Club of vuyyuru was chartered in 1974-75. Rotary Club of Vuyyuru created a charitable Trust called "Rotary Community Service Trust" This trust constructed an 100 bedded eye hospital in the year 1988. We recall the help we received from The Rotary Club of Leigh-On-Sea, UK and Royal Commonwealth Society for the Blind for the Eye Hospital, Innumerable donors from local area and abroad came forward with their munificent contributions to complete the existing eye hospital. The Rotary Community Service Trust (RCST) is a committed service wing of Rotary and in line with the National Programme for Control of Blindness. The Rotary Eye Hospital is tuned to conduct cataract surgeries in a massive scale. The RCST is taking good care of eye problems / ailments for the past three decades and till 31/8/2018 we have examined 20 Lakhs patients and performed more than 2 Lakh IOL, Glaucoma and Other surgeries and have been examining the children to safeguard their vision by conducting periodical check-ups at their schools and also training the Teachers to check the vision of students with a request to send defective vision students to our hospital for necessary correction/advice. How the project will meet the needs : As an Rotary Institution (Hospital) we would like to add RETINA Division in our existing 100 bedded eye Hospital so that we need not refer poor patients for want of facilities to cities at enormous expenditure for Retina treatment. The estimated project cost is around US $ 2,90,000 excluding the Land and Infrastructure. The required euipments for Retina division are as follows. 1. Microscope 2.Vitreetor 3. CRYO 4.IO Lens 5.Indirect Opthalamoscop 6. Instruments 7. Laser. The Retina division project can be completed tentatively with in a period of 1 year from the date of commencement of the project. The trust Chiarman, Secretary and other trust members are Rotarians from our Rotary club of vuyyuru. The club members will be involved in right from planning to commissioning of the project.
