Project Description

Region: North America

Country: Mexico

Location: Parras de la Fuente

Total Budget: $70,000

Area of Focus: Basic education and literacy

There are many children and young adults in Parras, Mexico and the surrounding mountain villages, with physical and learning disabilities. This project will involve a Vocational Training Team going to Parras to train teachers in Parras with the latest techniques on how to connect with these children and give them basic education and training that will enable them to live meaningful, productive lives. Two classrooms with be equipped with special furniture and equipment that the teachers will use to engage the students. Wheelchairs will provide those in need with the mobility to attend the classes conducted in the classrooms and vocational training will be given to older physically disabled children on how to repair wheelchairs. This project will involve at least three other Rotary clubs in D-5790 as well as the Grapevine Sister Cities, Grapevine Convention & Visitors Bureau, Grapevine Ambucs, the Rotarian Wine Appreciation Fellowship and other civic groups.

DDF contributions in grey are pending approval of the corresponding district committee.

Note: as of July 1, 2015 there is a 5% additional support fee for cash contributions. This fee does not appear in the financials above because it does not apply if the funds are sent directly to the project account (without going through TRF, and therefore without Paul Harris credit). Clubs sending their cash contribution to TRF must be aware they will have to send an additional 5%.
