Areas of Focus: Water, sanitation and hygiene, Basic education and literacy
PLEASE NOTE: This proposed Project has been identified as a follow-on to our current, in progress, Global Grant GG1981740.
Our proposed project includes the following:
a) Supply of Educational Equipment & Furnishings, b) Security Upgrades, c) Building Renovations and d) Training of Staff in Classroom & Resource Management, Health & Safety and Basic Bookkeeping.
These needs have been identified as follows:
a) Supply of Educational Equipment & Furnishings - a survey has shown that all 5 pre-school ECD centres in our immediate surrounds are sorely lacking in equipment & furnishings. In most cases the children are made to sit on the floor, which has minimal covering. There is a distinct lack of educational equipment which is considered to be imperative, but, is not supplied by the authorities. Our Club has duly qualified teachers as members and they have identified, in conjunction with the ECD Centres' management, these needs which will be purchased from local stores.
b) At all the pre-schools safety is problematic. In particular the perimeter fencing is not up to standard and in many cases, is broken, allowing access to anybody. Discussions have taken place with ECD Centre's management and it is the intention of the Project to appoint a specialist contractor to repair/replace necessary equipment.
c) The current buildings being utilized all need refurbishment, in particular the kitchens and bathrooms. Our Club has duly qualified members to survey and assess what is required and will appoint the appropriate contractor.
d) Training of Staff - it has been identified that all ECD Practitioners currently undergoing training through our existing Global Grant will require further basic training in the fields as shown above. This will ensure a well rounded education in Early Childhood Development teaching. All training will be undertaken by suitably qualified staff, some of whom are members of our Club.
It is envisaged that this project will begin in January 2021 and will have a 6 month period.
To summarise, the project funds will be used to finance Education Equipment & Furnishings, upgrading of Safety equipment & infrastructure, renovation of Buildings, Specialise Basic Training of Practitioners.
Rotary Members will be responsible for assessing the needs, appointing personnel & contractors and overseeing the Project in general. Suitably qualified Rotary Members have also offered their services to undertake s a portion of the training, in particular Classroom & Resources Management and Basic Bookkeeping.

Note: as of July 1, 2015 there is a 5% additional support fee for cash contributions. This fee does not appear in the financials above because it does not apply if the funds are sent directly to the project account (without going through TRF, and therefore without Paul Harris credit). Clubs sending their cash contribution to TRF must be aware they will have to send an additional 5%.
