Project Description

Region: Asia

Country: India

Location: New Delhi

Total Budget: $95,000

Area of Focus: Water, sanitation and hygiene

Young men in the semi desert areas of Rajasthan's Sikar and Alwar districts leave their family farms to find work in the city. Faced with scarce water for crops and unreliable rainfall, they could no longer count on farming to feed their families. The land goes so dry that they barely get drinking water.Farmers are able to grow only millets & little wheat. This puts pressure on urban density and fast reducing land under cultivation. For Check Dams to be effective, they need to be built over bigger areas and not in isolation.

10 Check Dams are proposed to be constructed in 5 villages each in Sikar & Alwar Districts in Rajasthan, India. Total land to be covered will be around 3,000 hectares. Around 25,000 human beings & 30,000 milch animals will benefit.300 wells will be recharged. Project cost will be around US$ 120,000 - 125,000.

Note: as of July 1, 2015 there is a 5% additional support fee for cash contributions. This fee does not appear in the financials above because it does not apply if the funds are sent directly to the project account (without going through TRF, and therefore without Paul Harris credit). Clubs sending their cash contribution to TRF must be aware they will have to send an additional 5%.
