Project Description

Region: Africa

Country: Nigeria

Location: Port Harcourt

Total Budget: $1,150,000

Area of Focus: Disease prevention and treatment

The Rotary Club of Mgbuoba adopted the focus group discussion method and the administration of questionnaire in conducting the NEEDS Assessment. Relevant information was elucidated from the following groups: Chief Medical Directors of the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital, Rivers State University Teaching Hospital, Medical Doctors, Nurses, and health officers and Nigeria Medical Association Rivers State Chapter.

The Rotary Club Mgbuoba identified shortage or non availability of PPEs as their most important priority thereby exposing health care professionals to the danger of contracting covid-19. Furthermore, health workers lamented the absence of ventilators in hospitals in Rivers State resulting in poor management and treatment of covid-19 patients.

•To address shortage of PPEs in hospitals due to the magnitude of this pandemic.

•To Provide adequate PPEs supplies in sufficient quantity to healthcare or other staff caring for suspected or confirmed covid-19 patients

•To prevent death of healthcare providers as over 150 health care givers has contracted covid-19 in Nigeria

•To reduce/arrest the spread of covid-19 in health facilities.
