Government Health center at Abuloma caters for Abuloma, Fimie, Okuru-Ama, and Amadi -Ama communities close to Port Harcourt. The project is to provide 2000 delivery Kits which will last one to two years. The women, children and even men in the communities have not been attending this health center which caters more for Baby deliveries, because of poor provision of baby delivery consumables. The health center normally ask the pregnant women to go and buy delivery contents in the market which many could not afford. Consequently, they prefer to attend the local unhygienic traditional mid-wives or deliver in the house with the help of other women around. This has caused the mortality rate to be high, and increase associated diseases with poor treatment and care. This project is to encourage the women and the communities to make the health center their first choice with the reduction in expenses due to the provision of delivery kits. The hospital still charges some token to maintain other needs like stationery, electricity etc. Other issues are taken care of whenever the Government subvention comes which is very rare. The project is aimed at reducing mortality rate to barest minimum, saving mother and child. Presently the rate is still high even in the hospital for the above stated reasons. The risk of associated maternal (currently 917 births per 100,000 live births), neonatal (currently 36 deaths per 1000 live births) and infant (currently 119.9 deaths per 1000 live births) mortality. The total cost fo the project is $35,000 for 2000 delivery kits with baby sleep suits
