'Nepal has just one ventilator for 114,000 people'.There are only about 360 ventilator machines in Nepal and 260 of them are in the Kathmandu , the capital city of Nepal. Around 25 percent of these life-saving instruments are not in working conditions and this brings down the number of working ventilators to around 263. That means Nepal has one ventilator per 114,000 population.With current existing system Nepal can only handle 5000 covid-19 cases.
According to the research by the World Health Organization (WHO), out of 100 reported cases of COVID-19, 80 can be treated at home, 15 need hospitalization and the remaining five need serious treatment on ventilator.Till date 25-08-2020 , there are 32,678 cases in Nepal and it is rising at the rate of 700 in average everyday.
Dhulikhel Hospital , one of the Covid-19 hospital assigned by Nepal Government and third largest medical institution with more than 20 outreach centers.Dhulikhel Hospital is the focal hospital for more than 17 districts of Nepal i.e means for more than 5 millions people .Right now during this pandemic situation,Dhulikhel hospital is one of the hub hospital for covid-19 of Eastern Part of Nepal along with level 3 hospital for the critical care treatment for covid patient .
At present 49 covid patient are in isolation ward while 4 covid patients are in ventilators and remaining are occupied by critical cases . Dhulikhel hospital has 10 ventilators 4 for pediatric case , 4 for critical care for adult and 2 are speciall for acute respiratory infection dedicated for covid cases.At presence scenario number of cases are increasing day by day with symptomatic i.e it may require critical care . Now patient from children , adult and senior citizen cases are equally coming.Therefore,its crucial and urgent to have more ventilators to save more lives from covid-19.
Dhulikhel Hospital has requested the Rotary Club of Dhulikhel to support 4 ventilators , 2 for adult & 2 for children for treatment of covid-19.
