GG 2016131 for Pollution Free Transportation Ak'Tenamit School, Guatemala
NEEDED: Four 20 HP equivalent Torqueedo electric outboard motors to be used to power two existing large 30 passenger launches and one new 60 passenger catamaran ferry that will serve as "school buses" to transfer students between classrooms, residential buildings and dining facilities located on two campuses separated by river water. Each electric motor will save over $6,000 per year in fuel expenses and maintenance. Torqeedo drives do not discharge any fuel or exhaust into the water. The electric motor is emission free, almost silent, and safer than a gasoline motor. The batteries will be charged at the school by an existing array of solar panels. The 60-passenger catamaran ferry will be locally built with fiberglass hulls.
The total project budget is $99,000. This requires $23,500 in Rotary Club cash donations. As of August 17, $10,750 has been pledged. The international club is the Rotary Club of Puerto Barrios, Guatemala. A Puerto Barrios member has received the Service Above Self award.
This project needs to receive some pledges to go to the next level. Please check the "Financing" tab to see the list of current pledges. Once the amount pledged is equal to the project budget, the status of the project will be automatically changed to "Fully Pledged". Click here to pledge support for this project.
Note: as of July 1, 2015 there is a 5% additional support fee for cash contributions. This fee does not appear in the financials above because it does not apply if the funds are sent directly to the project account (without going through TRF, and therefore without Paul Harris credit). Clubs sending their cash contribution to TRF must be aware they will have to send an additional 5%.
