Project Description

Region: Africa

Country: South Africa

Location: Missionvale

Total Budget: $58,459

Area of Focus: Basic education and literacy

The Normoyle Primary School is part of the Missionvale Care Centre, a non profit organisation operating in one of Gqeberha's (previously known as Port Elizabeth) poorest townships. Our main objective is to give the learners of this school access to world class technology so they may maximise the quality of their foundation phase education. In addition to the technological equipment, we also identified a need for teacher training, specifically in the area of counseling as many of these learners have been exposed to some sort of trauma in their young lives.

The timeline for the project will be the 2021 through the 2022 school year. During this time frame the classroom equipment will be purchased and installed in the school classrooms.

The host club members have participated in strategic planning with school personal about the needs for this technological equipment and for teacher training in how to counsel students who have been exposed to trauma.

The host club will be responsible for managing the funds for this project, as well as purchasing the designated equipment and overseeing the installation of this classroom equipment.

DDF contributions in grey are pending approval of the corresponding district committee.

Note: as of July 1, 2015 there is a 5% additional support fee for cash contributions. This fee does not appear in the financials above because it does not apply if the funds are sent directly to the project account (without going through TRF, and therefore without Paul Harris credit). Clubs sending their cash contribution to TRF must be aware they will have to send an additional 5%.
