Project Description

Region: North America

Country: Mexico

Location: Rosarito Baja California

Total Budget: $32,993

Area of Focus: Water, sanitation and hygiene

Families living in the outskirts of Rosarito Baja California Mexico, specifically in Ejido Plan Libertador Community, endure several issues that affect them; parents are employed in minimum wage jobs (approx. $47.00 USC per week), many families are supported by a single parent, usually the mother, either because the father is absent or is a victim of addictions.

Ministerios y Comedor de Niños de Rosarito A.C. is a non-government, non-profit organization, which provides breakfast and lunch to children from 4 to 12 years old, who attend the public schools nearby.

The organization was founded informally by Patricia Ramirez in October of 2014, when she saw that children were missing school, because of lack of food, she decided to provide meals to a small group of children with her personal funds. The group of children beneficiated grew and she legally became Ministerios y Comedor de Niños Horizonte Rosarito A.C.

Currently, the organization serves approximately 100 meals per day. An outside organization is helping to build a building to house children in need, as well as to serve the meals.

Our project will provide water sanitation equipment to supply drinking water to the institution, this equipment will generate enough drinking water to be sold to members of the community at a lower price. The GG also includes Laundromat equipment, the income produced by the Laundromat will also to help for the sustainability of the project.

This GG will benefit the families living in the area, by providing two free meals per day to approximately 250 children ages 4 to 12. Running water from faucets is not suitable for drinking in Mexico, the water sanitation equipment will provide easy, safe and affordable access to drinking water.

Families will also benefit from the Laundromat services, being close to their homes in addition to contribute to the project's sustainability.

Note: as of July 1, 2015 there is a 5% additional support fee for cash contributions.
