Union health and family welfare minister Harsh Vardhan said awareness and early detection of Mucormycosis or 'Black Fungus', as a way to help curb the spread of the deadly fungal infection.

Mucormycosis, commonly known as 'BlackFungus' has been observed in a number of COVID19 patients recently. Patients with comorbidities or uncontrolled diabetes and those who are on voriconazole therapy or immunosuppression by steroids or even prolonged stay in Intensive Care Units (ICU) can get predisposed to the fungal infection . Hospitals across the country have been reporting cases of a rare coronavirus-linked fungal infection, that affects the sinuses, the brain, and the lungs and can be life-threatening.

Rotary Club MBD Brass City Stars, proposed to establish an Retina Testing Machine OCT to detect Black fungus. Approx Cost of this OCT machine is USD 40000. We can provide this testing free of cost to the patients, with the help of technical assistance of Doctors. Our Club is ready to contribute USD 5000 for this project. Kindly consider and help us for the betterment of society.

Note: as of July 1, 2015 there is a 5% additional support fee for cash contributions. This fee does not appear in the financials above because it does not apply if the funds are sent directly to the project account (without going through TRF, and therefore without Paul Harris credit). Clubs sending their cash contribution to TRF must be aware they will have to send an additional 5%.
