Repair/restoration of Classic & Antique autos is a big market in central/northern California, yet in district 5230 there are no vocational training venues to teach these needed skills; and many shops in the district are too overloaded with work to train novices. Thus we are filling this need by offering this training in partnership with Rancho Cielo, which is a very successful vocational training campus in district 5230 for kids "at risk"; many of whom are given the choice of incarceration or learning a vocation.
At Rancho Cielo, we will teach them the basics of carburetor repair, mechanical timing adjustment, wire harness repair, body prep and finish painting. The total cost for the first three years of this new curriculum is $52,000 which will acquire all the tools, consumables, artifacts, and training instructors needed during the first three years. Two members of the host Rotary club are heavily involved in designing/refining the curriculum and working with Rancho Cielo management to implement the program. This will be an annual summer class, with the first training class scheduled to begin in June 2022.
Note: as of July 1, 2015 there is a 5% additional support fee for cash contributions. This fee does not appear in the financials above because it does not apply if the funds are sent directly to the project account (without going through TRF, and therefore without Paul Harris credit). Clubs sending their cash contribution to TRF must be aware they will have to send an additional 5%.
