The 'Diabetic Eye Care Project' is being proposed with the intent of providing comprehensive eye care services to the patients of diabetic retinopathy in Bihar, one of economically and socially underprivileged state in eastern India.
India is home to approximately 77 million people with diabetes and the numbers are predicted to increase to 125 million in 2045. One in five adults is now estimated to have diabetes in India. If screening and treatment pathways are not practiced early, the rate of vision threatening diabetic retinopathy is projected to increase exponentially, leading to loss of productivity and increase in DALY( Disability Adjusted Life Years) . Delayed diagnosis and insufficient treatment facilities contribute to the problems of the suffering population.
With the help of Rotary, the intent is to initiate a sustained drive across the community for diabetic retinopathy screening and treatment.
Bihar with its limited health resource and infrastructure, is to benefit immensely from a fully equipped Diabetic Eye Care center and this will be a major contribution towards betterment of the quality of life of a less privileged community.
We aim to provide low cost , affordable and quality eye treatment to the last person in the queue.
Training of paramedics staff in the field of ophthalmology will be possible.
