Skill Development of the under privileged and needy in India is the need of the hour.
All around us, we see Skill Development Centres mushrooming to cater to the needs of the under privileged.
Considering the relevance of this requirement, four Clubs of Gurgaon decided to come together to pool in their resources.
The Clubs include Rotary Club Gurgaon Qutab Enclave, Rotary Club Gurgaon, Rotary Club Gurgaon Cosmopolitan and Rotary Club Gurgaon Central.
We - the four Presidents started this process as early as January 2023 - much before our tenure was to start.
The aim was to identify a suitable venue which would enable us to start our Centre with minimum expense on the CapEx.
After a fair amount of research, we were able to identify and earmark two rooms fully equipped with all the infrastructure for smooth conduct of training. A MOU was signed between the VC of DSEU Rajokri ( proposed location ) and DG 3011 for earmarking of two training rooms for the courses designed for our Project.
The next step was to identify an Institution which could undertake beginning to end commitments.
This included mobilization, recruitment, identifying the right training, placement of the candidates and hand holding post their employment.
After an intensive research, we were able to earmark Empower Pragati - an Organization which had proven experience in this field for more than 10 years.
After a joint research and interacting with the village elders and other institutions in Rajokri, we settled for conducting courses for Call Centre Executives ( CCEs ) and General Duty Assistants ( GDAs ).
The course duration for CCEs and GDAs were pegged at 250 hrs and 450 hrs respectively.
The content coverage also included classes in English, confidence building skills and certain soft skills considered imperative for the job.
The course curriculum would mirror the course content of Delhi Skill Corporation.
The testing would be carried out by an independent agency namely the Skill Centre Institute. This will ensure a fair assessment.
Empower Pragati will ensure that each course will have 30 trainees so that each Trainee can be given individual attention.
Empower Pragati will ensure 80% placement of the trainees and will hand hold the trainees for a three month period to ensure smooth settling down.
The four Presidents of the Gurgaon Clubs would form the Board of Directors and would continually monitor the progress of Courses and placement of candidates.
We propose to target 600 trainees in a two year period
The four Gurgaon Clubs are together in this Project and we propose to make a difference
and contribute to the Community Development and provide meaningful employment to a sizeable number of candidates from the under privileged society. The total cost of the Project over a two year Project is 84,000 USD. Each Club is putting together 13250 US dollars - thus a total of 53000 USD. Our DG of District 3011 is giving 5500 USD from the District DDF. Likewise, PDG Deepak Talwar has got us 8000 USD from other International District DDF. With a matching amount from the World Fund, we have been able to collect 78810 USD. We are short of 5190 USD and seek support for the same.
It would be pertinent to mention that I have an experience of working in the Training & Development Function for close to 40 years
out of which about 15 years have been in the BPO Industry which gave me the experience of setting up Training
Centres and conducting courses for Call Centre Executives.
