PROJECT

Provide equipment for treatment of diabetic retinopathy to the SSM Community Eye Hospital, Cochin (Kerala, India) to help provide subsidised eye-care for the deserving.

PROJECT RATIONALE

India is often referred to as the "diabetes capital of the world" and within India, Kerala has one of the highest incidences of diabetes. A large number of diabetes patients are found to suffer from diabetic retinopathy - a disease that leads to blindness unless detected and treated in time. While the retinopathic condition is irreversible, timely intervention can contain its spread and reduce instances of avoidable blindness. This proposal seeks to provide diabetic retinopathy treatment equipment to the SSM Community Eye Hospital that has been set up in July 2023 by the SSM Eye Research Foundation.

Note: as of July 1, 2015 there is a 5% additional support fee for cash contributions. This fee does not appear in the financials above because it does not apply if the funds are sent directly to the project account (without going through TRF, and therefore without Paul Harris credit). Clubs sending their cash contribution to TRF must be aware they will have to send an additional 5%.
