The HK hospital is funded by the PRHeSS: Pan-African Rural Health and Social Services non-profit, which was established in 2007 and has, among others, funded a 45 bed hospital, oil plantation, funeral home and guest house, wells and outdoor toilets. The hospital is growing exponentially and serves several thousands of patients a year in the rural area of Sierra Leone. As is typical for African hospitals, it does not have any radiology imaging
capability which prevents healthcare providers to perform basic screening and perform a diagnosis for fractures, respiratory diseases and other common ailments so that proper care can be provided. The objective is to make a major difference in the health outcomes for this community by providing radiology X-ray imaging which will benefit a population of 400,000 residents in the Bonthe district in the Southern province of Sierra Leone. Note that the whole Southern province which has a population of 2,000,000 residents currently relies on one single Xray unit being available.
The funds will be used to acquire the X-ray equipment, corresponding computer for archival and display of the digital images and exchange them with other physicians for the purpose of Telemedicine. The project will also include servie and installation, the necessary infrastructure to include solar power and network capability and training as well as installation oversight from a Rotarian of the international sponsor who has extensive experience with these systems.
