Needs: Lake Atitlan, which is the main source of water and the main economic driver in the region, is becoming more polluted. The root cause is that 400,000 live in poverty in the watershed, very few of which have sustainable wastewater treatment systems, and many also lack access to potable water.

Timeline: We began this program in 2017. We have completed three global grants serving six communities. Our next project will be Tierra Santa which can be completed within one year after funds arrive.

Use: Project funds will be used for construction materials and engineering

Members involvement:

-Complete Community Assessment

-Negotiate with the municipality

-Long-term evaluation using mWater

Note: as of July 1, 2015 there is a 5% additional support fee for cash contributions. This fee does not appear in the financials above because it does not apply if the funds are sent directly to the project account (without going through TRF, and therefore without Paul Harris credit). Clubs sending their cash contribution to TRF must be aware they will have to send an additional 5%.
