PROJECT DESCRIPTION:

PLEASE DESCRIBE WHAT NEEDS YOU IDENTIFY? HOW WILL THE PROJECT MEET THESE NEEDS? WHO WILL BE THE BENEFICIARY OF THIS PROJECT? CITE AN ESTIMATED NUMBER OF BENEFICIARIES.

It was identified that for the village of El Pencal, municipality of Olaya (Antioquia), there are few job opportunities that allow the sustainable development of the community, this due to a low number of local companies that guarantee decent work, a high degree of informality and a high economic dependence on agricultural activities such as the cultivation of coffee and fruit trees. Such a situation directly impacts young people, considering that the majority of the population belongs to the age group between 15-34 years old, and of these only 14.5% have a formal job and social security. Consequently, the migration of the population from rural to urban areas is intensifying as young people seek opportunities for personal, professional and work growth far from their homes.

The ecological and rural community tourism project will address these needs since it diversifies the community's sources of income, formalizes employment through the structuring of a community-based organization led by youth and generates added value to agricultural activity.

It is proposed to structure a work network of young people as agents of change with technical training and strengthening of capacities for management in ecology and tourism, entrepreneurship, legal and regulatory framework of the tourism sector and customer service, with the aim of promoting the conservation of biodiversity, the generation of new jobs and the improvement of living conditions.

The direct beneficiaries of the project will be 15 young people who, as agents of change, will positively impact the territory for the benefit of the 143 families of the community of the El Pencal village.

SUSTAINABILITY

The technical advice, the strengthening of human resources and the installed capacity in natural resources and tourism will provide the community with the management tools necessary for the sustainability of the project in the long term. Through participatory dialogue and exchange of knowledge, commitments and agreements are generated with the community in the development of a solid community-based organizational structure that allows continuity of the tourism operation.

In addition, collaboration networks will be created through the recognition of community actions and the identification of key strategic actors that support economic and social innovation initiatives for the development of ecological and rural community tourism.

IS THE COMMUNITY INVOLVED? DESCRIBE THE ROLE OF THE LOCAL COMMUNITY IN THE IMPLEMENTATION AND CONTINUITY OF THE PROJECT.

The community will be actively involved in technical training activities, entrepreneurship, and planting and reforestation to consolidate ecological trails for the conservation of biodiversity. The transfer and exchange of knowledge will be the fundamental axis for achieving the objectives. Leadership and empowerment of these initiatives will be promoted by the youth of the neighbourhood as agents of change.
