PROJECT OBJECTIVES:

Train 60 young people from low socioeconomic strata of Medellín and rural areas of the Department

of Antioquia, in the area of WORK EDUCATION for three semesters of study, creating opportunities

for productive employment and improving access to sources sustainable work

PROJECT DESCRIPTION:

Colombia is a country with problems of generalized violence and conditions of poverty and

inequality. Students from low and rural strata come to school influenced by violence, crime and

conditions of economic scarcity. When many young people finish their secondary education, their

desire for progress is frustrated, because they do not get decent jobs, due to the lack of training, as

they do not have the resources to learn a trade or complete their university studies, and they

become vulnerable to criminal gangs. . By developing training programs that allow young people to

access technical education or higher education programs, they are rescued from violence and

provided with the opportunity for employment and personal improvement.

The ROTARY CENTENARY SCHOLARSHIP CORPORATION (legally constituted NGO, it was created by

the Rotary clubs of Antioquia in 2005) has trained young people in vulnerable conditions since 2016,

focusing its action on undergraduate studies and education for work (technicians and technologists

). To date, 45 young people have been trained in undergraduate and 187 young people in Education

for Work. The academic commitment of the beneficiaries is excellent, 80% of them achieve an

average grade above 4.0, 16% are above the commitment which is between 3.5 and 3.8. 67% of

those enrolled in the program are women and 33% men, they have a commitment to the educational

institution and the Scholarship Corporation to provide a few hours of service to the community

during each semester. The dropout rate of 4% of those enrolled, which is not high, considering that

they are supported from the 1st semester. The Medellín Nutibara Rotary Club has been working on

the creation of a Rotaract Club with the young people who are in the Scholarship program.

behavioral commitment to the Institution. The student must report a number of hours worked

with the Community.

• The project will create 60 new additional places for young people between 18 and 23 years

old in Education for Work in the different modalities and agreements that the Rotary Centennial

for Work" program, composed of 3 semesters, are chosen to train as technicians.

The 60 young people will have a formal job with fair remuneration, improving their income and the

quality of life of each one and their families, which consists of an average of six people.

SUSTAINABILITY:

The Rotary Centennial Scholarship Corporation has been running this program for 7 years with the

contribution of Rotarians from the Department of Antioquia of District 4271 who have the obligation

to contribute $125,000/Member/year, for an annual contribution of $35,625,000 (value to date,

which is 28% of the annual cost.

The Scholarship Corporation has signed agreements with educational institutions, who are cofinanciers of the program for 55% of the annual cost. The semiannual contribution as of December

20023 is $114,000,000

Benefactors:

A sponsor plan of natural persons who contribute $3 million monthly; private companies that

contribute $94 million a year; natural persons, who contribute $11.4 million per year, different from

the sponsor plan.

Parents who benefit as a family commitment must contribute a percentage that varies depending

on their socioeconomic level and contribute to date in the order of $28,000,000 per year. In this way,

the sustainability of the program is guaranteed and the subsidy fund is strengthened.

IS THE COMMUNITY INVOLVED? DESCRIBE THE ROLE OF THE LOCAL COMMUNITY IN THE

IMPLEMENTATION AND CONTINUITY OF THE PROJECT.

Clubs and Rotarians that present students have the obligation to be in permanent contact with the

students and their families, forming a team during the term of study. The Scholarship Committee

of the Scholarship Corporation and the linked educational institutions support students and

institutions throughout the academic process, verifying compliance with their academic

performance, their behavior in the Institution and the report of the number of hours worked with

the Community. .

Graduate beneficiaries continue to be linked to the program, multiplying knowledge and leadership

in their communities and engaging in community work to motivate study and raising awareness of

Rotary International. Likewise, they are constantly working for young people who require support

with study and formal employment, and searching for financial contributors to the fund, improving

agreements with educational institutions and sending permanent reports to benefactors.
