Step 10: Sustainability

Humanitarian Projects - Project Planning

Describe the community needs that your project will address.

1. Children and adolescents who are at risk and socially vulnerable, such as rights violations;

2. Children and adolescents alone at home, due to the need for work by those responsible;

3. Psychosocial assistance to the target audience's families, in order to facilitate access to other policies.

How did your project team identify these needs.

Faced with an extremely vulnerable territory and lacking in social projects, the need arose to include young

people in guaranteeing the protection and defense of their rights, where without this opportunity they would

be on the streets, in drugs, drug trafficking, prostitution and amidst violence.

How were members of the benefiting community involved in finding solutions.

The families of those involved have been mobilizing to raise funds through raffles, donations and thrift stores

in order to generate funds

How were community members involved in planning the project.

They were involved in participating in preparatory meetings, searching for and selecting budgets, and

obtaining support from public bodies, in this case the City Hall and local Rotary. The project aims to expand

the number of assistance in guaranteeing the Protection and Defense of the Rights of Children and

Adolescents.

Humanitarian Projects - Project Implementation

Summarize each step of your project's implementation.

Activity

Duration

Will you work in coordination with any related initiative in the community? If yes, briefly describe the other initiatives and how they relate to this project. If no, please explain. Are local initiatives not addressing these needs? Or, if they are, why did you decide not to work with them?

The IEFA in partnership with Senac and Senai (S Systems) are offered free training courses are Office

Assistant, Administrative Assistant, Sewing, Patchwork, Knitting Pattern Maker, Modeling, Kitchen Assistant,

School Food Agent, Confectioner, Bakers, Pizzaiolo, Systems Programmer, Informatics for Elderly Citizens

and Occupational Safety Technician. These are carried out at IEFA headquarters in partnership with SENAC

/ SENAI, and the certification is recognized by MEC (Ministry of Education and Culture in Brazil). It also

offers the Promotion and Integration Project to the World of Work.

Please describe the training, community outreach, or educational programs this project will include.

Our work proposal consists of involving the largest number of employees, teachers and collaborators who can

be, together with the students, the transforming agents of the conflicting situations experienced by the young

people.

Music classes will be held weekly against school shifts. Educational lectures will be often be given to students

and their parentes.

The following activities will also be incorporated:

Group dynamics workshops, where various themes will be developed according to the needs and interests of

students, such as: drug addiction, sexuality, family, school, etc.

In these dynamics, we work on these issues, with the whole group, together, passing on information and

orientations pertinent to the topic under discussion, and we also open space for young people to speak what

they think, answer questions, clarify questions. As a consequence of this democratic dynamic, we will work on

several issues, such as: rights and duties, respect for diversity, choices and consequences, conflict resolution

and citizenship. Psychotherapeutic assistance will also be included for students who need individual assistance,

for a specified period, as the priority is participation in groups.

How were these needs identified?

Faced with an extremely vulnerable territory and lacking in social projects, the need arose to include young

people in guaranteeing the protection and defense of their rights, where without this opportunity they would

be on the streets, in drugs, drug trafficking, prostitution and violence.

What incentives (for example, monetary compensation, awards, certification, or publicity), will you use, if any, to encourage community members to participate in the project?

Through mainly student presentations in the city and region. These presentations motivate and encourage the

continuity of students who already attend and publicize the Project so that new students feel motivated to

participate.

List any community members or community groups that will oversee the continuation of the project after grant-funded activities conclude.

The project will be overseen by the project's team of coordinators in the communities and also with partners

who maintain direct contact with the benefited community and who serve as a link between Rotary and the

local community. The IEFA has at its rearguard a large network of successful volunteer citizens professionally

linked to important entities of Professional Classes such as: Doctors, Dentists, Lawyers, Engineers,

Accounting, Civil Construction, Information Technology, etc ... in which the main objective is to strengthen

the strategies to provide financially the necessary resources for the continuity of the works, projects and

courses that take place there and the proof of this success is the very existence of this entity that has lasted

since 2003 (17 years). In addition, thanks to the effective contributions of both this network and individual

contributors (individuals and companies), the entity carries out some fundraising activities, such as: Bazaars

(second hand clothes stores), Lunches and charitable thematic dinners (Italian, Spanish, Japanese, Festa do

Chopp , etc...)

Budget

Will you purchase budget items from local vendors? Explain the process you used to select vendors.

Initially we selected three suitable suppliers in the city for each group of products where they had the

opportunity to present their budget. From there, the lowest value of the three was chosen.

Did you use competitive bidding to select vendors? If no, please explain.

Yes

Please provide an operating and maintenance plan for the equipment or materials you purchased for this project. This plan should include who will operate and maintain the equipment and how they will be trained.

The hired teacher will be trained to maintain musical instruments, in addition, and in this way we can closely

monitor the performance and maintenance of these instruments. A relay (alternatition) will be carried out

among the members of the project committee to monitor the physical structure of the project. Regarding

technological equipment, IEFA has a Computer Technician to perform maintenance

Describe how community members will maintain the equipment after grant-funded activities conclude. Will replacement parts be available?

For being musical instruments, the need to maintain them is very rare, except for replacement of strings and

drumsticks, so much so that in the budget, string instruments come with extra strings.

However, if maintenance is required, replacement items are easily available from several local suppliers.

Regardless, the course coordinators are extremely skilled in handling and able to pass these skills on to

students, who learn early that the sound will only be perfect with the correct conservation and storage of

instruments.

About the computers the maintenance the teachers themselves will carry out, as it depends on software found

on the internet, duly licensed.

If the grant will be used to purchase any equipment, will the equipment be culturally appropriate and conform to the community's technology standards? If yes, please explain. If no, describe how the project team will help community members adopt the technology.

Yes, The grant will be used to purchase musical instruments and also equipment appropriate to community

standards. As well as computers are equipped for beginners and thus facilitate and improve their

development.

After the project is completed, who will own the items purchased by grant funds? No items may be owned by a Rotary district, club, or member.

The owner of the equipment will be the beneficiary institution Instituto Educacional Francisco de Assis

(IEFA).

Funding

Have you found a local funding source to sustain project outcomes for the long term? If yes, please describe this funding source.

Yes, IEFA's sustainability is achieved through partners, sponsors and promotions and events that take place on a

monthly basis, we also have a weekly thrift store and three major thrift stores that take place in April, August

and December

Will any part of the project generate income for ongoing project funding? If yes, please explain.

Yes, some presentations will generate donations and new partners

Is your economic and community development activity a microcredit project? If yes, upload your microcredit supplement file.

No
