   Afghanistan - Jalalabad

Nangarhar University

$95,000

This project will provide funds to furnish a dormitory for 72 female students. Most of these students will major in English and upon graduation will teach English to females at secondary schools throughout Afghanistan thereby benefitting thousands of students over their careers. A severe shortage of female teachers limits the number of females who can attend secondary schools in Afghanistan. Those female dormitory residents not majoring in English will graduate in various other disciplines offered at Nangarhar University. Presently there are approximately only 20 female students attending classes at the main campus of NU which has a total of 3,000 students. Lack of housing for females is the limiting factor. It should take approximately six months to complete this project.
