Activity Type: Education: Scholarships

The educational progression of young individuals is paramount in such an individual becoming a viable contributor to society. In addition, such an individual and the Rotary club develop a relationship, demonstrating the importance of "Service." Addressing one or more the Rotary Foundation's six areas of focus stresses the importance of working to enhance one self and others. This is relevant both to the local or international communities.

The scholarship funds will cover tuition or book expenses.

The criteria will be based on:

1. Academic performance

2. Need

3. Studies in one or more of the Rotary Foundation's six areas of focus

a. Peace and conflict prevention/resolution

b. Disease prevention and treatment

c. Water and sanitation

d. Maternal and child health

e. Basic education and literacy

f. Economic and community development

Members of the Rotary club of Arlington Southwest will raise the needed funds for the club's portion of the project. Members will develop an application for student using TRF's Global scholar application as a template. A committee of Rotarians and other individuals will interview applicants and make selections based on predetermined criteria The committee will verify expenditures and complete final reports.

In addition, Rotarians will discuss the possibilities of other Rotary opportunities such as the Peace Fellow program and the Global Scholar program.

Arlington Great Southwest Rotary for years has been providing scholarships for young individuals. The club has had siginificant results with student at UT Arlington especially with Rotaract students at UT Arlington.
