Part 1 - Clean Cook stoves
It is common practice to cook over an open fire or with an improperly vented stove. Using this cooking method increases indoor air pollution which causes a variety of health issues and early mortality. In addition, these cooking methods use over twice the amount of firewood leading to deforestation, high carbon emissions and high fuel costs. This project will add clean cook stoves for 4 schools.
Part 2 - Sanitation
The kinder school in La Catocha has no working bathroom or sink. They currently use a hillside behind the school as their bathroom. This project will install a bathroom and sink for Escuela Rural de Pre- Primaria La Catocha.
Part 3 - Repairs -
The school at El Jurgallón has water leaking in from the back wall causing mold issues in the classrooms. This project will address the wall issue, and update the kitchen in school with clean cook stove and other materials.
Part 4 - Medical Equipment
The local University (CUNORI) runs a low cost medical clinic for the surrounding community. The clinic has very little medical equipment. This project will purchase some of the much needed equipment that the clinic has requested.
Rotarians from the Rotary Club of Fort Collins have visited the project site. We have future follow up trips planned. In addition the local Rotary Club of Chiquimula is actively involved in all aspects of the project. Items in this project were part of a previous Global Grant request. The foundation suggested we address through District Grant instead.
