Schroeder Park, located in downtown Eagle River is an older park in need of an overhaul. There is a playground, tennis courts, basketball courts, picnic pavilion, and disc golf. Eagle River Rotary, in conjunction with the Chugiak/Eagle River Parks and Rec, will prioritize the items in greatest need of repair and provide the labor and funds to once again make Schroeder Park a place for families to gather. We expect to begin this summer and be done by May 30, 2017.
Addendum to Project Description (added after the project was signed)
As Schroeder Park became out of the realm of our budget and moved to a capitol improvement project requiring a minimum of $15,000 to begin any portion we worked with the Chugiak/Eagle River Parks and Rec to develop a plan to make needed upgrades and maintenance within the Eagle River Town Square Park. We will be replacing the "Christmas Tree" that Rotary plays an integral role in lighting every year. The tree has been infested with Spruce Bark Beetles and a fungus infection as well as preforming restoration of the "Rotary Wheel" planter that the tree is located in. We will also provide the financial support to replace the panels in a kiosk that Rotary has been using to advertise upcoming events and promotional items with artistic metal panels that will incorporate the Rotary Wheel. We will also be replacing other trees/shrubs throughout the park that have become infested with pests and/or fungus. This is a park that Eagle River Area Rotary originally designed and built between 1986 and 1990. It was turned over to Chugiak/Eagle River Parks and Rec for maintenance and administration in 1994. As the original builders, our club feels a sense of ownership and pride for this park and want it to continue to be a safe place for families to gather year round.
